Lately I’ve been thinking about minimalism quite a bit. I’ve never really been great at keeping things simple or decluttered, but I do think there are some merits to trying to keep the amount of things in your life in check. I will never be the person who can keep her whole closet on one of those cute rolling racks, or carry all of her makeup in a small pouch, but every life hack in moderation, amirite??!
I also think that it is good to get back to the basics every once in awhile. There are days when I don’t feel like putting together an insanely unique outfit or putting on a full face of makeup. On those days I am grateful that I have my go-to’s that always feel easy but still me.
Here are some of my favorite basics that I always find myself going back to. What are some of your favorite basics? Let me know in the comments!
Leather Bucket Bag –
This bucket bag shape has always been in style to me. It feels classic and effortless, and the smaller size promotes minimalism in what you carry around from day to day. I love this black leather bag from Sole Society and it is also on sale!
Olay SPF 15 Moisturizer –
I have tried many many skin care routines in my day, but this moisturizer has been the one constant through all the change. Everyone needs a daily sunscreen for their face and this moisturizer keeps skin soft without being too oily. I love how it provides a fresh base for my makeup routine as well.
Timeless Timepiece –
Everyone has a watch in their arsenal that they love. Whether it be a family heirloom, or the Michael Kors oversized gold watch you saved up for in college, a good timepiece is a classic accessory that always makes you look more put together. I love this Timex because it feels modern and understated, the taupe color is also very unique.
Apt. 9 Unlined Lace Bra –
I have a love/hate relationship with bras. When you are wearing the right one, it can make your clothes fit better, your back feel better, and boost your mood. When you have a larger chest like me, good bras are hard to come by and finding them can be frustrating. This bra I found at Kohl’s has been a repeat purchase for me over the years. It minimizes, supports and doesn’t look matronly. It comes in a variety of colors, and is always in stock.
Loreal Voluminous Mascara –
I started using this mascara further back than I can even remember. I think this was one of my first makeup purchases in middle school and it has been a staple in my makeup bag ever since. While I have found other mascaras that I love as much as this one, nothing can beat the price and the versatility. One coat will do for everyday, and it is easily buildable for a more dramatic look. The best part is that it is so easy to remove at the end of the day. Win/win.
Converse High Top Chuck Taylor –
My style has changed dramatically over the years, but one brand has always been part of my shoe collection: Converse. My chucks may not be as beat up or drawn all over as they were in high school, but wearing them clean is a look all its own. I prefer the high tops, but everyone has their own opinion when it comes to Converse, and with so many style/color options, you are bound to find something that feels authentically you.
