I love recommendations. I think that definitely weighs into my obsession with my Amazon Prime account. The fact that I can read individual reviews about almost any product in existence is really appealing to me. Like, it is highly unlikely that I will purchase an item until I visit the reviews section. I NEED at least four 5-star reviews before I can even consider buying that candle thank-you-very-much!
I come across things on the daily that I want to tell people about, so here are my recommendations* for the week!
*Caveat – I am weird, therefore some of my recommendations may seem strange to some of my readers. Enjoy!
1. Running for Weight Loss app –
I have been using the Couch to 5k app for a few months now, but was starting to find that the longer the stretches of running got, the more and more disinterested in running I was. Also, make no mistake, I take no pleasure in working out these days. My goal is strictly for weight loss/maintenance and not for the “love of physical fitness”. Studies have shown that long distance running actually has less effect on weight loss than intervals of running/walking/sprinting. Enter the running for weight loss app. This app directs you to shorter bursts of energy and introduces sprints, and for me, the only girl in the world who would rather run outside than go to a barre class, these are the perfect intervals to keep me entertained. Download the app here.
2. Scrotal Recall on Netflix –
I know, I know. I am going to stop you right there because I KNOW. The name of this show is questionable (to say the least). If there could be an award for the best show with the worst title, this would get the gold because…yeesh. BUT, because I am a weirdo, I threw caution to the wind and watched this show (silently praying that my eyes would not be assaulted in the first scene). Guess what! This show is so good you guys. It is charming and witty and it is basically the guy you want to get matched up with on your dating app of choice. This British rom-com centers on Dylan who, in dealing with an STD diagnosis, is forced to revisit all of his past relationships. It is a ‘who-done-it’ mixed with a ‘will they/won’t they’ storyline and it is in a word: delightful. It is the How I Met Your Mother of British humor. They should have called it How I Met [insert disease here]. Netflix just ordered a second season, so word must’ve gotten out that this is actually a good show, despite its unfortunate nomenclature.
3. Popcorn Indiana Aged White Cheddar Popcorn –
So, as you can probably tell from my running story, I get bored very easily. That applies to almost every aspect of my life, especially the most important aspect: FOOD. I am not a person that can eat the same thing for lunch everyday and be perfectly content, I need variety! I need intrigue! I need new snack ideas! Now, while my love for food is deep and everlasting, my desire to not be unhealthy is also present. Therefore, I’ve been looking for new healthy(ish) snack options for when I need a pick me up. I know, fruit and veg are always the best, but HUSH. This is okay too. I picked up a bag of this on a whim when I couldn’t find anything at 7/11 in a pinch. It is good…until I get sick of it. Check it out if you love snacks like me.
4. SOHO Jeans for New York & Company –
I think we all know by now that I love to shop, and for all you new readers out there…I LOVE TO SHOP. New York & Company was always a pass for me when I’d play store ping pong at the mall in my younger years. Recently, though, I have found myself directed to the online store for specific items I’ve been looking for and have been pleasantly surprised with the options. If you’ll remember I, like the genie that I am, predicted that affordable brands would be knocking off these 3×1 fringe crop jeans before the season was up and BEHOLD…I was right. Needless to say, these jean babies are on their way to me as we speak. Not only that, but perusing the jean options at New York & Company I was floored, they have every style you could ever want or desire and reviews to boot. Now get to shopping!
5. Don’t Think Twice –
While I do appreciate a big block buster flick, I have to say, some of my favorite memories at the movies are when I am in an empty theater at my local art house watching a flick that has a small budget but a big heart. Anyone who knows me well knows I am a huge fan of comedy, comedic actors, comedy writers, stand-up comedians, and the like. Many of my favorite comedy figure heads got their start in improv comedy troops, and that is what this movie is about. Friendship, fear, success, failure, art, humor and love – this movie captures all of that, and got me one step closer to what life before fame might actually have been like for some of my comedy heroes. Highly recommend this film by Mike Birbiglia. Also, if you’re a fan of podcasts, I recommend his interview about the film on one of my favorite podcasts You Made It Weird with Pete Holmes.
